Having seen Robert Boyd’s photo of my old street in Coco Solo, I was just wondering how many of our Boquete residences are Zonians? From where in the Canal Zone did you spend time?
I spent years in Margarita, France Field and Coco Solo.

Hi Steve,
Here in Sta Lucia for July & Aug. Been spending time around the country since Jan. Mostly the city, Penonome and San Carlos.
Yes I remember. I have been trying to find Curundu Hts, but with all the new roads, I always find myself someplace else - mostly toll roads....
Yep, my dad was a doc at Gorgas and we lived next door to St. Luke's cathedral just 2 houses from Gorgas. It is still standing and now seems to be run by the YMCA?
How long have you been in Boquete? I would like to hear more about life here. Charles & I keep missing each other's calls.

Hi Guys,
Ric Winstead BHS 65 here since July. Moved to Ft. Clayton in '52, then we moved to Ancon where I completed elementary school at Ancon Elementary and on to BHS and even 2 years at CZC in La Boca getting an AA before heading back to the States to get BA from The Johns Hopkins University in '69. Back in '79-80 to Gorgas Hospital when it changed over to a MEDDAC. A small detour (30+ years) to Seattle and finally Bellingham before making it back home.
What a long, strange trip it has been.
Ric
Maybe a few years before you. Neil Young was three or four years ahead of me and I finished in '65 as well, if that means anything. I read somewhere that the music Stills was exposed to in his youth in Panama and other places where his father was stationed, was a big influence on his music and style.
Comprendo. I removed the reference. Did you know Stephen Stills when he attended BHS?
You may want to submit a change to Wikipedia then Steve, as this entry gives the opposite impression. "Two other high schools in the Canal Zone, Paraiso High School and Rainbow City High School, were segregated for dependents of the Canal Zone's Afro-Antillean and South Asian employees. Desegregation of these schools began in 1975 and was completed in 1979, at the same time as the Canal Zone's abolition." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balboa_High_School_%28Panama%29
Steve: Sign me up! It would be interesting to talk to other folks who have memories of the Zone.
I left Panama when I was 12 and came back for a year when I was 16. When I was in the States, the memories of Panama were so intense that I would say that I had dreams for about 15 years almost nightly. I had a great childhood, it was such a great place growing up. I asked my wife to visit Panama and when we hit Boquete a year and a half ago we just stayed. I have become a citizen since then. She loves it here as much as I do. Unfortunately our children will be having grandkids so I guess we will have to just visit the States more often.
I lived there with the rest of the family for 3 years as a kid. We lived in MEMQ on base where our father was a Chief AP flying seaplanes and other planes. I remember a lot even though I was very small.
