  • A couple of questions...
    1. Do any of the David or PC woodworking supply stores carry front or/and end vises for a workbench?

    2. Where can exotic hardwoods be purchased...paduk, purple heart, wenge etc.

    thanks
  • Hello woodworkers, I am new to Boquete and new to wood carving. I have very simple aspirations, to carve spoons. I have 100+ year old spoons from my husband's family and have been wanting to make my own. Is there anyone you know who can teach me, including sharpening the curved knives?
  • Hi y'all I am new to the group living in the bugaba area. I am looking for teakwood to buy any references appreciated thank you
  • Anyone think there is a prettier wood in the world than cocobolo?

  • Hi,  I look forward to sharing information with fellow wookworkers.  Attached is a little vid  of a table I made.  Al Mills  Cocobolo table movie

  • The icon I have chosen for this group is cocobolo, a true rosewood of the Dalbergia family that grows in Panama, and one of the most beautiful woods in the world.   It is very hard and heavy, somewhat oily, and the dust from working with is can cause skin and respiratory problems.  However, I feel that it is well worth taking the necessary safety precautions to work with it.

842629947?profile=originalI'm gracing this first post with a picture of a gorgeous electric bass guitar in cocobolo made by Alembic, a company in Santa Rosa, CA.  Alembic was an old customer of mine, and I have a couple of friends who work there. Their work is spectacular.

While I seek out more woodworkers in Chiriqui to document and photograph their work, I suggest that people who want to see some spectacular high-end woodworking visit Christian Montaner's gallery in San Francisco Plaza.  Christian is a local Panamanian who did a three year apprenticeship in Germany.  His artistic sense, style and joinery are extremely sophisticated - comparable to some of the finest furniture I have ever seen.  He has some cocobolo pieces - wall hangings - that are artistic, simple, beautiful, and very finely crafted.
