Machu Picchu is alive and well and open for business - contrary to some reports from the rumor mill. I went by there last night (on my way back from a great meal at Ou La La! and the place was quite busy. I drove by Quo Vadis and did not see any lights. Is it still open???

Returned to Tammy's for dinner with a group of six. we had most of the menu and with the exception on their pizza it was all very good.

I wish they would stop pressing their burgers while they cook, the meat here is so lean it is easy to dr them out.

In the rumor and opinion mill.
Pacfico deli is gone
La Fogata is gone

Ricco is returning across from Brisas

The Panamonte still serves a great trout, almost 2x the price of El Sobroson but much better

The chicken wings at Amigos are still a good value with a cold beer

It is unlikely I will return to Yings for Chinese food and finally it is likely I will eat more breakfasts at Central Park and may even try Dorado Park. I just prefer watching the town come alive from Central Park.

Haven't heard anything in the last 6 months or so about either Roxanne's or the Mediterranean restaurant on the back road behind Los Establos. Can anyone comment? Last few times at night there were no cars or obvious patrons at either.

Once again a trip to David FORCED us to lunch at Renegado!! What a treat it always is. Yesterday, we were FORCED by David to try Bertha’s paella arroz negro. It was incredible - unlike most paellas that are served in other restaurants, this one is a Catalonian recipe (just so happens that David is from Catalonia). It was artfully presented (in Bertha’s usual creative way) in a true paella pan, sizzling, and served with traditional garlic aioli (which was whipped so it was light and not sludgy and mayonnaisey like most). I have to tell you that for me to give up Bertha’s osso buco for almost anything else I have to be FORCED into it. But David was right - it was fantastico! Otra vez, Bertha: Muchas Gracias!
He also FORCED us to try a chilled white Spanish wine with it (since he knows how much we like our muy frio Balboas), and we had to agree, it did a much better job of enhancing the flavor of the paella.
For those of you reading this who haven’t FORCED yourselves to try the Renegado, please do: The Culinary FORCE of Peru and Spain will definitely be with you - and FORCE you to return…..!

P.S. Renegado will be doing a Barbacoa con Musica on Friday night May 30 from 9:00 to midnight. David assures me it will be a very special evening.

My wife and I went to the Renegado Restaurant in David today for lunch. David the owner served us and we enjoyed his witty sense of humor. I have to tell you that I had one of the best meals that I ever experienced on the face of this planet, I had the carne cannelonni and my wife had a pasta dish with bacon, I just couldn't believe how good the meal was and David's wife was the carsonara (?), I learned about Renegado from Don @ Chiriqui Chatter.. The location is right on the InterAmerica Hwy, across from Auto Centro.. Bon appetit!!!

Have you tried the new deli restaraunt called PACIFICO? It is adjacent to the Tradewinds shop in alto boquete.
The owners are young and really super nice.
The food is good. Jim had a great sub sandwich piled with fresh meats. I had a yummy ham and pineapple with creme cheese and honey sandwich. They make homemade soups, good cookies, salads, sanwiches..even "build your own" sandwiches.
You eat under a covered patio and the owners check on you to make sure everything is OK and to visit if you want to.
I would recommend giving it a try.
They also have nice music, not too loud and a tv with surfer movies playing.
