If you pass by the fire department, please take note of the decrepit condition of the fire equipment the bomberos are forced to use. I am starting a campaign to get new equipment. It won't be cheap, but it will be worth it.

I live in the Dallas/Ft. Worth, TX area & will ask local fire districts if they can help with these issues.  Maybe some of the firefighter association will help?

Hi I'm here visiting looking for a retirement home. I have found here blog. And I may be able to help with the problems that your fire department is having. First of all the details about my experience. I am a retired firefighter from the Phoenix fire Department where I worked for 27 years as a firefighter. I have been to your fire stations and I am fully aware of the substandard equipment that the fire department has. While I will never say anything about the dedication of anyone who chooses to become a firefighter. I know that firefighters that your have will do their best to give you the best possible service. One thing my chief told me years ago. In order for firefighter to be able to do their job. You must first train them and give them the tools to do the job tell them what you want done and then get the hell out of the way and let them do the job. I'm sure the people here have an expectation that their fire department is as good as any other. As I cannot speak to the their training I have seen their equipment I can tell you without a doubt that your blog is right it needs a lot of improvement. I have given information to the chief of the fire department the mayor and your firefighters on updated equipment I currently possess. This is not part of my sales pitch nor am I seeking to change public opinion. But as a firefighter I am committed to the safety of other firefighters and the public they serve. When I retired from the Phoenix fire Department a year ago I purchased a lot of their equipment with the hopes of selling our state of the art equipment to smaller fire departments that need it this equipment I can safely say that your department needs this equipment. This is basic firefighter safety equipment such as SCBA which are needed to effect rescue and burning buildings to protect both the firefighter and the public. If I can help you in anyway please feel free to contact me at my e-mail djk16a@gmail.com or my Panama cell phone 6481-9801 I will be in Panama until the end of October I would love to sell my equipment to someone who truly needs this equipment but if not I would be willing to talk to you about any other ways to improve the efficiency of your fire department. I hope you have not got the impression that I know everything I only wish to continue to help the people in this community that I may one day become a part of.

Thanks

Dwayne

A while back Valle Escondido Club Members and Residence did a fundraiser for emergency response equipment to be kept onsite to be accessable to those qualified to use. Many people in the field of emergency response came together to organize. Let me have the time to go through my past emails to get some contacts for you to correspond with. It is my understanding that there is a course that has to be taken to be able to participate. I will get back to you. Possibly any readers may also want to contribute contact people for you as well.

that would be good. The most I could find out last time was that our fire credentials and rescue credentials would transfer, with that we are instructors also. But we were told that ems would have to be taken in panama. Scope of pratice was something that i was going to check more into on my next trip. There is always the way of starting a service thru the united way or maybe the red cross on a limited scope, but my knowledge is just a little weak on that at this time. Maybe I could help with a few things before I come back down if you would like. thanks

Hey Bradford,
I can put you in touch with some people to hook up with. One of them also was a paramedic in the states. His name is Randy. I can get his email to you. Also there is Rob who is with the RedCross. There are many people getting involved in "Emergency Response" We have a # of people here at Valle Escondido.

on my last trip down did not get to find out two much on how panama accepts medics from the u.s.. If anyone could help me i might be able to help out. There are a couple of us that have been looking to "retire" and have a lot of years in service. I know of a way to ship equipment and even large stuff like an ambulance to panama free. This would be a project I would like to get involved with because of bringing a older family member down with me. Yes gov deals is a nice place to look but you have to be aware of the service life of what is being sold. That ambulance in brevard is less than 20 min from me I have even worked on it, looks great..will need a bit of service to bring it up to road ready.

Hi Hunter,
Wow! What a great site. My husband wanted always to get one of those Interceptors. A boy's dream, haha. Have you seen the AMBULANCE from Brevard, NC.? Everything in stainless steel, mint! Expensive! Well, let's see how the bidding ends in 8 days! That coach would be THE jewel for the Paramedics in Boquete!.

FYI: Here is a link for fire truck auctions to give you an idea of their cost:

Suggest putting the word out to your friends back in the States to see if they know of any departments will to donate their older equipment. Blast out an email to all of your friends in the US and consider using Facebook and other social networking sites to generate interest and help.

Hi Robert, I sent out invitations to join your campaign. I will stay on top of it as well to get more support here.

Yes, as a community it is important to give this area attention as well. Usually what it takes is (like anywhere) is something to happen to wake us up to the need. Of course no one wants it to come to that.
