Naan at Home…

Today while thinking about watching the Dallas Cowboys beat the New York Giants it occurred to me that this was going to be a special day!  Not that Every day on Roatan is not a special day…

What to make?

I decided that some fresh Hummus and Naan bread would be the perfect healthy choice.

There are many ways tp make Naan, with egg, with yogurt without yeast etc. They are basically all good try them, I do. This is a very easy recipe to do on your own and it really is enjoyable both to make and to eat.

1 teaspoon sugar
1/4 cup warm (not hot) water
1 tablespoon dry yeast

3 cups flour
1 stick non salted butter (melted and creamy)
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 cup of warm water
1/8 cup oil

Mix the 1 teaspoon of sugar with the yeast and the first 1/4 cup of warm water. Mix well and let stand for 10 minutes until foamy.

Place the 3 cups of flour mixed with the salt and baking powder in a bowl, then add the yeast mixture with the melted butter and 1/2 of the remaining cup of warm water. Begin to mix all together than add the remaining water. Kneed the dough for 3 minutes or so. This dough is sticky, that is normal, the way it should be. Now add oil on top of the dough, cover and let stand for 3 hours in a warm spot.

When the dough is ready, simply oil a large plate, pinch off the desired ball of the dough that you want to use and flatten it on the oiled plate until it is fairly thin, not too thin. Place into a heated saute pan sprayed with a touch of pan spray and cook each side for several minutes until bread is done. I like a touch of burn on mine but its your choice.

For variations, add garlic or chopped cilantro or about anything you think you would like to try.
