Longing the student allows for them to concentrate on specific exercises where their full concentration is needed, instead of worrying about where the horse is going, how they have the reins, etc. Here, a student "flies" for the first time. Hands Out is a vital exercise for the beginning rider, as it challenges their fear, their strength, balance and stamina. Once they are able to accomplish this exercise, riding (steering) then looks easy. The kids had to do posting trot, hands out flying, on hips and on head. Flying colours for all.
