Welcome Beverly
As Keith mentioned I do have up for sale a very well priced restaurant and bar in Palmira just on the outskirts of Boquete and on the newly paved road from Boquete to Volcan. Great location and perfect for future value. Legal with all licenses and fully titled.
Here are 2 links to check it out and feel free to contact me if you would like more information.

Welcome Bev, I passed your note on to my friend and neighbour Lyn McKee who has a bar listed for sale in the area.

Decent used cars are from $6000 and up. I generally recommend folkss thinking about spending 12k to 15k if they can, which will get a good low mileage SUV.

If you send me an email to keithwoolford@gmail.com I'll forward the current list of vehicles I have for sale to give you an idea.

it costs aabout $60 a year to license a car and $175 for minimal insurance.

Rents range from $300 to $1500 I guess, depending on the lifestyle you want or need to maintain.

cheers, Keith

Wow, that's a long multi question! The best thing about Boquete IS THE STRONG SENSE OF COMMUNITY. The people here are great. If you are outgoing, your social life will bloom very quickly. The Panamanians are very accepting of Americans and after three years we've had no bad experiences here. Rents are all over the place; generally from $300-1200 depending on the digs. There are lots of activities to get involved in. Legally you cannot be employed here but you can start your own business. It's pretty hard to make any kind of decent income here. The food is great but less variety than in the states. Does that help? Jeff

Hi Bev! We live in Celebration (near Disney - Orlando) now. I grew up in Miami, Celebration is a great place to live but very hot and expensive. Taxes have continued to rise despite falling home prices. (our property taxes are now just over $28,000. a year. It is a large house but taxes are ridiculous!) We are in our early 50's and have been looking for a place to live that is safe, inexpensive and friendly. We believe we found that in Boquete Panama. Property is NOT cheap in Boquete as sometime you may be lead to believe. But the monthly cost of living is much cheaper than in Florida. The downside of Boquete is the rainy season. October it rains every day all day long. We frequent Boquete for about one month every three months. We are currently working on securing our pensionado visa which will allow us many Panamanian discounts.

We have made many friends in Boquete and they seem very pleased with their choice of where to live. Our plan is to move to Boquete and rent for a year to be sure we like it. Then buy or build a home if we decide to stay.
Another problem with Boquete is that in order to fly out of Panama, you have to get to Panama City which is 6 - 7 ours away by car. Flights are available out of David (30-40 minutes away from Boquete) but sometimes it is difficult to arrange a timely connecting flight in Panama City so sometime you have to spend the night. If there was a family emergency in the States, I am concerned about getting back quickly. However, we have visited every sizeable community in Panama and none compare to Boquete.
The Panamanian people have been great with us. They do have a 'Gringo' price as opposed to a local price - so you have to be aware and haggle. We do plan on traveling, so perhaps we will do that during the rainy season.

The Government is corrupt - much more so than here - oftentimes the corruption is overt! Our experience has been very pleasant with the Panamanian government officials - just everything takes time - lots of it! Nothing happens quickly in Panama!

The weather during the dry season is unbelievable. From living in Florida all of my life I can't tell you how much I appreciate not having to have air conditioning! The weather stays 70 - 80 degrees year round with a bit more chilliness in the evenings. We did experience an earthquake and flooding last November. The town seems to have recovered from the flooding quickly.

I guess it depends on just what your looking for. Perhaps the Florida life will be a best fit for you if you're looking for a slower pace with all of the conveniences you have become used to - we've been here so long now, we're looking for a change.

You should check out both places and stay for awhile so you can get a feel for the place. If I can be of any more help, feel free to drop me an email.

Good luck and take care, Kay

Everyone is going to have a different opinion based on their personal experiences. The best advice I can give you is come and visit, more then once, and make up your own mind.
Of course I love it here or I would not live here. Please look me up when you visit, I look forward to meeting you.
