I too will be moving to Boquete. Close to my grandmother.  I will also be preparing myself as you earlier stated, I am a full supperter of your list as I too here in the Bahamas can not and will not depend on the government.  I have 500 gals of water, 30kw propaine gen to run the the house w/also many security systems to protect our home.

I too am prior military (Army 25ID) Hua! and fully agree w/being prepared at all times, alot of civis just don't understand the importance of being self reliant. Rangers lead the way buddy.

Thanks for the quick response.  Actually, you received that quote probably via email and it is now considered a "myth" - I found it on the internet as a "myth" and not true.  Thank goodness!  I was soo concerned.  Lou and I live in Bangkok, Thailand and are considering retiring in Boquete.  (We are originally from Wilmington, DE)  My cousin is moving there and she has gotten us interested.  Lou likes golf.  We like movies, book clubs, perhaps gardening.  I sew.  What is health care like?  Do we need health insurance?  Would you move out of the states due to the cost of living there?

I am interested to know where you found the information regarding Medicare and the expected increase in its premium to $247/month beginning in 2014.  That is horrifying.  I just signed up my husband for the supplementary insurance to Medicare and the total including part B which we already had, came to approx. $300/month.  For what Part Medicare is the premium supposed to rise to $247?  Please email me at helen@mizucollection.com.  Thank You.  Helen Fuhrmann
