hicotton, I could not agree with you more as far as treating people with respect and kindness. However, your experience is the exception rather than the rule. In my almost ten years in Panama I have yet to find good customer service. What I mean by…

Panama's New Tax Law 49 Explained (in short!)

As of last September, Law 49 (passed by Panama’s National Assembly and enacted into law by president Martinelli) is the new tax law of the land (Panamanian territory). As promised, the law implements long anticipated reforms in Panama’s taxation protocol.

General property appraisals by the state and capital gains tax on sale of properties are two areas that were revamped by this new Panama tax law.

How The New ROP Land Titling Law Fiasco Can Hurt Panama's Global Image

The recent public forum held in Panama City last Thursday, October 29th, 2009, and last month’s public disdain and rejection of proposed law project 71 have brought the issue of ROP land in the forefront of Panamanian news.

The merits of this new Project Law 71 and its predecessor Law 23 have been debated and analyzed in great lengths in blogs and online forums. What I would like to discuss here is the effect that this whole ROP Coastal and Island Land Titling “gong show”.

In last week’s forum… Continue

Panama's Air Accessibility Will Get Major Boosts

There is a really promising news in today's La Prensa regarding the long awaited and urgently needed international airport that will service Panama's central provinces (Cocle, Herrera, Los Santos).

If and when completed, the airport will provide tremendous accessibility to the Pacific Coast beaches (Gorgona, Coronado, San ccarlos etc.), as well as, reduce the time to reach Azuero's up-and-coming development areas (Pedasi, Tonosi, Las Tablas, Chitre) by at least a half. Further more, the airport… Continue
