Send me your e-mail address....mine is panamajames@gmail.com As for movers, we have 3 in Canada that I would trust. Maybe they are in the US as well. One is Williams Movers, one is Allied Movers and the other is St. Georges Movers. They might be called Moving & Storage, or have different names at the end, but Williams, Allied, and St. Georges are the 3 big ones in Canada. Do some online searches as to who the biggest and best international movers in your part of the country are and get some quotes. Don't get the most expensive and don't get the cheapest, get somewhere in the middle. Some people just take a few suitcases like we are doing, others take a 40 foot container. Depends what you have that is valuable that you can't replace. I looked at the cost of a 40 foot or even a 20 foot container of between $10,000 and $13,000 and figured that I can replace everything I have for that cost...........We haven't ruled out a container completely, but it sounds like we would rather have that $10,000 to buy stuff there and support the Boquete economy. We might be able to sell our stuff for $5000, flea market or garage sale prices, so that will help. All the best and keep in touch and make sure you contact me in February when you arrive..........Jim

Hi K.

What is it that draws you to Boquete? If you were going to make a move here, I would suggest that you come down for a month or two and see how it is. Some people have come to Panama and after a few months decide to move back to the states. Come and visit for an extended stay to see how you like it.

As far as making the actual move, see if you can have someone with a car meet you at the airport. Taking the bus or one of the local airlines can be a nightmare when you are moving with all your luggage. Bus and local air (David to Panama city) is fine for going back for a visit. We flew on Frontier out of Denver into San Jose, Costa Rica. From there we rented a car with a driver and drove down to the border. We decided not to use a container, so we had 8 suitcases and a dog crate with us. You really need to have someone meet you at the border because you can not take the rental cars across. We had friends meet us there. Time and distance wise, going into Panama City or San Jose are about the same from Boquete. We like that Frontier flies direct, but then you are coming into 2 countries and have 2 airport security checks.

January 2010. I think there is a big flower festival near that time, or just into February.

Boquete can have it's American prices, since there are a lot of Americans, Canadians and Europeans there. We are building a home but not in the Boquete area, so I am not so familiar with the local details. Let me know if you have any specific questions. I will help if I can.
