Hi, Michelle: Welcome here. I have cousins in Plano, TX. Does that win me any points? Seriously, this group is made up of a nice bunch of people without the vitriol and general grumpiness that goes on in some of the Yahoo Panama groups. Best of luck in your efforts in Panama.

That's really too bad, what you experienced. I think it has gotten better, although I suspect girls are still considered 'second' to boys. And, yes, if one has special needs, that's not available in Panama. Perhaps, as part of this endeavor, we could start a 'special needs' program - although that's a very large task considering all the various problems - from dyslexia to autism, etc.

One still has to be careful, too, not to have the child grow up isolated from the Panamanian community and Spanish.

I look forwarding to meeting you and together getting something going - anything is better than nothing.

There are some excellent private schools here. It's very important that kids learn Spanish and the local customs ASAP. An 'American' school (Panama is part of America too) would serve to keep the kids isolated and separate from the Panamanian kids.

There are very fwe activities for girls in Panama. I'm trying to get an organization started to organize, create and operate activities such as theater, arts, dance, singing, speaking, gymnastics, etc. Your help would be greatly appreciated - when are you planning to come to Boquete?
