Wanted: Unfurnished Efficiency Casita for Long Term Rental

Mature woman, non-smoking struggling artist seeks studio space for work during daytime hours only. I need roughly 300 to 500 square feet of open space in which to work. Would love an attached bathroom and a kitchen is not necessary. Wifi, good electricity and running water is a must.Maybe it's not an efficiency casita you have to rent. Maybe you have a spare maid's room with separate entrance? An enclosed garage you're not using? But want to make a little extra money off a dependable local…See More

Lucero is Cielo Paraiso's "new Paradise"

Posted on May 31, 2012 at 3:18pm 1 Comment

Reprinted from www.thirdworldwife.com

Last year, I think it was early July, I played Cielo Paraiso (since renamed “Lucero”). I wrote about it, and none too affectionately. I won’t repeat what I wrote, as you can go to my blog (www.thirdworldwife.com), search for "Cielo" and read it for yourself.

But I was invited to play with lots of other women by the resident golf pro, Elizabeth Archer.…

Cielo Paraiso: Paradise or Hell?

Posted on July 6, 2011 at 8:46am 1 Comment

Yesterday I played Cielo Paraiso Golf Course with my husband and two new friends who mostly play with us at the local Boquete golf course. As a 14-year veteran of the Southern California golf industry, I feel qualified to write an opinion on the course and it is posted on my blog at www.thirdworldwife.com. It's not a happy review, so be forewarned. And also remember, it is all IMHO.

Robyn, Possibly . . . there is a little casita next to the church diagonally across from HSBC painted a kind of yellow.  We use the back part for storage.  I don't think it is "fit for habitation" but the mayor's wife and another local artist once used the front rooms for a store.  It does have running water and a filthy old sink.  There are toilets which MAY work, or may work with a little help.  It did have electric but we have had t hat disconnected.  With some creativity it might work.  I'm willing to sign a year lease BUT with the condition that if someone comes along with $$ to buy the entire property, which goes all the way to the river . . .  Shoot me an email if you have any interest.  richarddetrich@yahoo.com

Robyn, Chick and and I moved here three months ago and our container is finally here. I am an artist. I especially like to oil paint. I have lots of art supplies so maybe we could get together and paint. I was born in CA and when I met Chick the adventure started. And now we retired in paradise. Please contact me. Mary Beth

Hola Robyn,

Ken and I purchased Bob and Pon Wolfes home in Las Trancas area between Brisas and the Caldera Rd.  We have been spending all our time working on the home and property and trying to make it our own.  We go into town to get things done and David for shopping and Sunday to church at the new Stuff Yer Face pizzaria.  We have plenty to do till rainy season ends and then it will be fun time!  How are you two doing and where did you settle?  I read your blog every once in a while and love your sense of humor and that is one of the main things you need here, isn't it?  We are at the "finding and figuring things out" stage and listening to every piece of good advice.  Moving out of country has been quite a challenge and very expensive!  It has been just two months here and they say to give it at lease a year to decide if it is right for you.  What have you discovered so far?  Are you happy here?  I am surprised we have not seen you in town or at the BCP.  What have you two been up to?...Pattie

Thanks Roblyn, We did not think that his medicare would be good in Panama, and it takes awhile to get back to the states.  What about a major unexpected need?  My deductible in the states is 4,000 a year, as I have had a hip replacement.  The rest of my health has been perfect, but that does not matter.  They even exclude the hip, and charge this amount.

Hi Roblyn, My husband turned 70 yesterday.  He had read somewhere that he can not get insurance in Panama upon turning 70, but can not remember (part of turning 70).  Where he read this.  What has John discovered regarding this important issue?  We say his post on NING, but do not respond there any longer.  Thanks in advance, for keeping us abreast of this.  I will follow NING to see the outcome.  Still planning to come for good by Nov. or sooner if things fall together here.  Abby L.

Wow!  You both have been very busy.  All in all, was the preparation for the move done to your liking or would you have done it differently?  We want to have a 20ft container ship our favorite items and we were quoted $11,500.00.  That would certainly purchase a lot of things once we got there, but the living room furniture is brand new!  And I love it.  Yikes...all the decisions are mind blowing!  So glad you are there...enjoy yourselves and we will meet at some point, I am sure!...pattie
