Do horses have personalities, like dogs? I'd say some have way more than dogs, bordering with almost human.
Of course this all depends on your horse, if it has had a good life or a hard one and sees people as something to fear or embrace. Mood also plays in to it. Masks, hoods, scrim sheets (blankets) are all used to combat flies. Flies love to swarm to equine eyes and congregate, basking in their eye liquid. It is a nuisance for horses and this is why you see them tossing their heads while out to pasture, trying to clear their face/eyes of flies. Flies are not only pesky, but they also transmit diseases.
