Cool, Green and the best Coffee in the world
Dear folks,
We are thinking of moving to Boquete, but we need to evaluate the cost of health care. Do we need health insurance in order to use the doctors and hospitals in Boquete and David?
What is the cost of doctors and hospitals there?
Any information that you can provide to me will be most appreciated.
Thanks.

Helen , You dont NEED health insurance in Chiriqui, but its good to have...there are a couple different ones ,but as far as I understand it...once past 65 its hard to sign up.
I heard someone living in Boquete saying he has an "international" health insurance , I think it was bought in the US or thru the US.
for catastrofic things you need insurance...for the 'day to day' medical, it seems to me ,reading what others have said , that costs to go to doctor, dentist etc is cheaper in Panama than the insurance premium is here in the uS.
When I visited I went (twice) to pharmacies in Boquete to verify that the medications I take (Synthroid ) is available....my friend check on his diabtes medicin too.
buying both over the counter there cost just about the same as with insurance discounts here in the US.
