A certain percentage of people anywhere will be jerks and that certainly applies to Panama as well. Most of the people I have met though are very nice, just as they would be where I live and where you live now.

In Boquete, be sure to drop in for breakfast at 'Olga's' -- as anyone where it is -- and you will meet other North Americans there, Americans and Canadians. Same is true for 'The Bistro' at lunch and dinner time and a few other places too.

If you have other questions or concerns, fire away, I'm sure one of us will be able to answer.
