I have a friend moving here permanently who is on Lantus insulin and ask me to find out if it is available here in Panama, where you get it and how much it costs. Any inputs would be greatly appreciated.

Your friend is in luck. Lantus insulin is available in Panama without a prescription, and the cost is in the low to high $20 per pen range. It is relatively inexpensive. The price I mention varies greatly if your friend does not qualify for the jubilado discount. It is available at any farmacia, but may not be consistently in stock. If one asks, there are discount cards available at the farmacia. There is one that gets you one free if you buy 4 at once (buy 4 but only pay for 3). Hope this helps.
