Reports are that the ATM issue is resolved. I will try a withdrawal next time I am in town to confirm it. The reports came from Multibank in Chitre and BNP in Bocas that withdrawals with US debit cards worked.
This appears to have been a real mess from the CLAVE people and their changes not as some people thought a evil conspiracy. The only surprise is that it was not reported in the press and that the banks did not handle it professionally.

Slaps table!!!! I want what I want when I want it!!!! Not in Panama. Still loving it here anyway. I've found the local population actually very helpful and understanding----just a little slow. Went to the islands off of Boca Chica last Sunday and had a great time snorkeling. That should last at least a year! I have been coming up to Boquete at least once a week trying out restaurants and coffee shops. No complaints as of-----TODAY. Life experienced own your own disregarding opinions up front makes life a Challenge. Facts yes opinions, No. lol

Why would I be surprised. I read Ning everyday.
Sometimes the international networks, there are several are down. Visa might work and Cirrus not. Don't shoot the bank, make sure your card was not debited and try again.
Banistmo atms didn't work again today.
Well, it just happened to me again---for the 3rd time since October. This was at the Multibank in Boquete. The manager was very nice--nicer than the people I talked to before at Global in David and what was then HSBC in Boquete. So---I've called my bank in the US. I just hate that feeling and seeing my bank account have less money in it that I don't get. Another gringo came up as I was leaving Multibank and put his card and without any problem. Is it me????? Am I not holding my mouth right???? Grrrrrr.
Perhaps that "Gringo" who followed you had a debit card from a Panamanian Bank. Have not ever had a problem withdrawing money from a Panamanian Bank.
No, his was a US bank, too. And with the manager at Multibank with me, I was able to get $100 out of my US account. What a nightmare......
Hilary, you need to read the posts more carefully. The ATMs malfunctioned only on international transactions. They worked for Panamanian transactions, which are the vast majority. The machines were not shut down because people making withdrawals from Panamanian banks were not affected. (That's not to say there couldn't have been more public notice of the problem and/or signs warning that the machines could not process withdrawals from banks outside the country.)
Bonnie
That is correct. You are right on the issue.
I understood. thanks bonnie
