Can anyone give me an up to date on crossing border and back at Paso Canoas? I am here in Boquete and need to do it in July. i have heard so many different stories. Can it be done in a day or do I have to stay longer? Please no negative comments. I just have not made up my mind yet if I am staying here and will have to do at least two.
Any honest and helpful answers would be appreciated! Thank you!

OK, the tourist visa for US people is 180 days, not 6 months, and yes it matters. I have personally flown in twice less than 30 days out. I have "heard" less than 30 days out if you exit during month 5 or earlier.
The current regullations, confirmed by the U.S. Embassy, is that a tourist visa is good for six months, after which the visa holder must exit the country for 30 days. Many people report having gone to the border and being required to exit into Costa Rica for only three days or less, however. It seems to depend on how the border agents feel on a particular day. (This does NOT apply to persons who have applied for a pensionado or other permanent visa and currently have a temporary visa because of that application.) For more information and/or confirmation, I suggest emailing the current Citizen Liaison Volunteers (formerly called Wardens) at clvboquete@gmail.com
