Expat funerals

Having recently gone through this when my husband died in June, I can answer some questions. I was lucky because he died in the hospital so they handled a lot. I believe if this happens at home a doctor must be notified before the body can be moved. This can run between 300 and 500 dollars. Oh, all must be paid in cash up to this point. You would need to decide how the body is to be handled burial or cremation. I can not address the first. You need to make arrangements for a funeral home to handle the body and send it to Panama city for cremation. My cremation cost was slightly over 1700.00. In about 3 days, I had my husband's ashes and the necessary paperwork to carry him to the US on a plane. It took a while to get the death certificate due to the Panama City office being closed due to COVID. Each "original" death certificate costs $25.00. I had legal work such as filing the death certificate, changing my foundation. That cost approximately 2000.00.

  Where is a crematorium in Chiriqui? There was suppose to be one in David, but the neighborhood forced it to close or maybe not even open at all.
