What is an Italian Beef Sandwich. Well, before I tell you about this sandwich let me fill you in on a little back story. After Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the company I was working for transferred me to Chicago to manage the Illinois/Indiana district. We had only been in Chicago a day or so before I wondered into a sandwich shop called "Al's". Here I ordered an Italian Beef Sandwich and the rest was history. I became obsessed with this sandwich. The bread, the meat, the pickled vegetables. Each element was delicious in it's own right, but when assembled together, a sandwich was born that delivered flavor and texture unlike anything I've ever had. To highly understate this sandwich, It was incredible.
We only spent 6 months in Chicago before being transferred to Dallas and it's no exaggeration to say that while I lived in Chicago I ate this sandwich at least once a day! Restaurants like Al's, Portillos, Buona, Johhnies, Lukes, you name it and I probably ate their Italian Beef. I just fell in love with this sandwich.
After leaving Chicago I set out on a quest to replicate this sandwich. The beef had to be seasoned and cooked perfectly, the pickled vegetables had to be flavorful and crispy, and the bread needed to be soft but with enough structure to hold this messy sandwich. I am very excited to say that I have successfully replicated this sandwich and I can confidently say that if you buy one of our Italian Beef Sandwiches you will get to experience the "real deal". Perfectly cooked and thinly sliced then chopped roast beef that's been finished in a flavorful herb and beef au jus, pickled vegetables that have been salt brined and marinated in a unique blend of spices, and a fresh baked hoagie bun that rounds off the sandwich.
With that being said here are a few rules when eating an Italian Beef Sandwich:
1. Unwrap the Italian Beef sandwich.
2. DO NOT (UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES) TRY TO BRING THE SANDWICH TO YOU (this is a messy sandwich and it is best that you go to the sandwich to eat)
3. Enjoy
This is a new direction for the 2 Guys & A Cooler team and if it goes well you can expect more "fresh" offerings in the future. Philly Cheese Steaks, BBQ Platters, amazing Burgers, and all sorts of goodies. Help us spread the word about this event by posting a message on your social media. We are taking preorders for Italian Beef sandwiches, as there will only be a limited amount available. If you don't preorder I can't guarantee that we will have many extra. If you would like to preorder simply send me an email (cajuneric@gmail.com) with your name and how many sandwiches you would like. Each sandwich is $7.00 and will come with a side of pickled giardiniera vegetables that you can add to your sandwich once you get home (please don't skip this ingredient as it is quintessential to this sandwich). Please come by our location between 11am and 2pm, this Friday May 28th, to pick up your sandwiches. Our fresh sandwiches will be made when you arrive.
