Pet relocation

Hi there,

 

My wife and I are planning a move to Panama in February. We are relocating from Houston and bringing a 5 year old 22 lb schnauzer. 
Has anyone moved from Houston to Panama recently? 
Im trying to figure out why it costs so much.

We we're quoted 4900.00 plus to relocate our dog.

Just him. Insane. Currently United doesn't accept pets, and they're saying, if they did, you have to use an acceptable international shipper. 
Any other options would be appreciated.

Unfortunatly, Copa does not fly out of houston, that flight is operated by United.

You can do the process yourself Bob, it is quite easy if you follow instructions.  Copa, Delta and AA are talking pets, best to get to a city where they fly from first, then direct from there.  Many people rent one way car rentals to a city with a direct flight.

Thanks for the info. I'll definitely do Copa Air.

I think Rod and Oscar from Retire in Panama Tours also can get us thru immigration with our pup, but I'm still checking. I think our dog is too big for under the seat, so cargo is my only option.

Fly Copa. See a USA vet for international paperwork and arrival info. You must see the USA vet less than 10 days before arrval.  Be prepaired to spend around $165 to the vet at Panama City airport. Pre-notice of arrival is required.

Hi Bob and Barbara!

I recently traveled with my dog and cat from Florida to Panamá. I used Copa airlines, it was $125 per pet and they sat with us under our seats. The weight limit is 20 lbs but I don't think 22lbs would be a problem. We worked with Jose Saenz from Golden Frog Pet relocation. I believe it was around $150 each for all paperwork, not including the cost of the health certificate from our USDA certified vet. I think we also had to pay $30 for the USDA stamp and $30 for the consulate stamp. You can only fly Monday through Friday when the MINSA/MIDA offices are open. Reach out to Jose if needed [e-mail].
