Lo hallan muerto en puente
Not sure if this is the death on Friday that's been the object of discussion, but here's what i was able to find in the National press. If you don't read Spanish, choose your own translator.

Osman Valenzuela, de 22 años, y quien fue reportado como desaparecido el viernes 4 de abril, fue encontrado muerto ayer, sábado, debajo del puente sobre el río Chiriquisito, que divide el distritos de Boquete y Gualaca, informó José Guerra, funcionario del Centro de Operaciones de Emergencias (COE).
El cuerpo fue encontrado aproximadamente a las 12:50 minutos de la tarde por las unidades del Sistema Nacional de Protección Civil (Sinaproc); quienes mantenían la búsqueda del joven desaparecido.
El reporte sobre la desaparición del joven se registró el viernes en el COE, pasada las seis de la tarde, informó Guerra.
Según versiones de los familiares, ellos fueron junto al hoy occiso al río y que después de bañarse y salir al puente Valenzuela regresó al río porque tenía alguna necesidad fisiológica y desde entonces permanecía desaparecido.
Al lugar acudió la Policía Nacional y funcionarios del Ministerio Público, quienes realizaron la diligencia de levantamiento del cadáver y ordenaron su traslado a la Morgue Judicial para determinar las causas de su muerte.

This is all very confusing. Are there now two young man that died last Friday? One being murdered for 300 dollar as Susan Miller told and one by drowning as in this article? What is going on?
My Panamanian friend told me that this is a friend of his son's that drowned in the river not very far from the hot springs in Caldera. No one beat him and no one stole $300 from him. He just drowned while swimming.
Not according to these reports, Susan. In brief, the first article by LaCritica says the young man was bathing with family members. When finished bathing, they all returned up to the bridge but Osman went back down to relieve himself in the river. (which would explain his lack of clothing when found). He disappeared and the family reported him missing around 6:00 p.m. on Friday evening. SINAPROC launched a search.
The second report by ElSiglo says he was found just before 1:00 pm. on Saturday in 15 feet of water, about 80 feet away from the bridge where he was last seen. The article states that the National Police and friends of Osman also participated in the search. SINAPROC reported COD as drowning.
These are very rocky rivers and streams which could certainly put a beating on a body in that length of time. Identification must have been very difficult and painful for the family and I pass on my condolences.

From the photos, it is very obvious that it was not only brutal but lengthy.
William, I know you indicated you didn't remember the name of the paper where you saw the article but is there a chance you remember your son's friend's name? Since Keith's report does have a name, this could easily tie the two together......or not.

I remember the family from some years ago when they lived in Alto Dorado and Volcancito.
This article states the young man died of immersion(went down and didn't come back up) and includes a warning about bathing in rivers. The article states he was the eighth person to die in this manner in Chiriqui. (no time frame - hope it's not just 2014)

En Chriquí, ocho personas han muerto por inmersión. Las autoridades del Sinaproc solicitan prudencia a la hora de asistir a los ríos.
Un joven de 22 años se convirtió en la víctima número 8 por inmersión en la provincia de Chiriquí, luego de que se ahogara en el río Chiriquisito.
El viernes 4 de abril, familiares de Osman Valenzuela, quien vivía en Bajo Boquete, informaron que el joven había desaparecido en el río Chiriquisito. La última vez que lo vieron fue a las 6:00 de la tarde.
Al recibir el reporte, unidades de Búsqueda y Rescate del Sistema Nacional de Protección Civil (SINAPROC), llegaron al lugar para iniciar la búsqueda.
A la 1:00 de la tarde del sábado, el personal de SINAPROC ubicó el cuerpo del joven Osman en el fondo de un riachuelo que tiene unos 15 pies de profundidad.
El cuerpo fue ubicado a 25 metros del punto donde lo vieron por última vez.
Además del SINAPROC, en el operativo de búsqueda participaron amigos de Osman y unidades de la Policía Nacional.
