Buying New from a Dealership in David?

My wife and I will be permanently relocating to Boquete in the spring/summer 2015 timeframe, so it's too early for us to be shopping the used car market yet.  I have no idea how active the used car market really is, although I'm sure it's far more active than can be gleaned from this discussion group.

I'm curious what the new car market is like.  Would a gringo get hosed at a dealership?  (more so than in North American dealerships?)

If what I want isn't available used when I'm ready, would it be smart to hire someone to do the negotiating a dealership for a new model?

I'm curious if anyone here has a bought a new vehicle in David, and how that went.

  • Thanks for that link.  Plenty to check out there!

I have visited with Keith, as some of my future neighbors highly recommend him, too.  It's too early to ask him to look for us, although I certainly am going to pursue that when the time comes. I'm just trying to prepare for the possibility that he won't be able to find what we need in that window when we are ready to buy and can't wait for very long.

Although we didn't do anything but drive by the Nissan dealership on the way to the airport in David last month, we could see that they had some of the trucks in stock that might work for us.  I won't be able to move in before June, so you may be all set before I get there. I hope so.

    Thanks for the reply!

  • We shipped our car to Costa Rica and will be selling it around the 1st of March 2015. Going back to USA. One owner car , very good condition. It is a 2003 Dodge Durango SLT---4 WD drive. Would drive it to Panama for inspection if interested.

Also will send pictures if interested-------------Asking price is $8500---

If interested call Bob @ USA #1-520-235-4511

  • I looked for a used vehicle several  years ago and found this:

    1. Panamanians generally sell a vehicle because it is becoming a piece of junk.... Gringoes because they are moving but want almost as much as a new one if you are looking for something in good condition.

    2. You have to have a familiar relationship with your mechanic to get something fixed and usually that takes several passes. Good mechanics are a rarity here.

My conclusion buy new. Buy Toyota. New prices are not bad and resale price is good.

I hope everyone forgets what I say when it comes time to sell MY vehicle. lol.
