  • Looking for a furry friend.
  • We got Shadow from a Panamanian neighbor we used to live next to when he was 10 months old. Someone cutting bars on our carport poisoned our dog Fulo so my friends and neighbors knew we needed another dog. We've had him for almost 6 years now and he is a joy. He's a bit macho to strangers and that OK! Good Boy!

We also received a rescue tripod female (Sadie) from people moving back to the US. She is just the sweetest thing. We've also had her almost 6 years.

They are like an old married couple except she was spayed and he neutered. ;o) Best dogs ever and both are purebred Panamanian mixed mutts. So smart and loving.

  • Anyone who is truly concerned about animal welfare is in favor of spay/neuter programs. There is no more effective manner in which to control unwanted animal population growth, associated parasites and disease.

  • I thought this site was for positive stories about animals and their people

  • I'm done feeding the troll!

  • Tina, if as you say Panamanians are angry about their dogs being spayed/neutered without there permission maybe they should keep them off the streets, fed and medicated for mange, fleas, ticks, open sores and other horrible things that happen to dogs on the loose.

  • Tina, back in the 70's vets were telling people that if they let their female have a litter of puppies it will calm her down. That is NOT what they are now saying. Not to mention these street animals don't have a loving home where their diet and health are monitored. Many of these starving dogs die during whelping or afterwards leaving a litter of pups to die horrible deaths as well.

You saw the condition of the puppy you rescued. Is that what you want to see all over Panama. People here are finally coming to accept that sterilization is the best approach to ending the suffering of these street dogs.

The program that Dottie in Volcan and all the other Spay/Neuter clinics in David, Boquete and elsewhere all over Panama has saved the lives of thousands of animals that would otherwise have perished due to venereal disease or unwanted pregnancies. I applaud the passion of these folks to do what they do. They are all volunteers, they are not paid to do this. Only the vets are paid.

So you may want to get your priorities straight.
