Yes, I am the Chief of Police in Mankato. I am actually the Director of Public Safety, which means I am the Police Chief, Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director. I have been to New Ulm many times, good restaurants and good beer! Very cold up here though, especially for November.
If you are bringing a container on a pensionado visa, you need to be in country when it arrives. Talk to Brent directly and make sure he aware of your situation. He handles everything on this end and just shows up with your container. He knows how to make it happen without complications.
This can be stressful but it's a process that does end. Hang in there.
Highly recommend Ranier and B&B (Brent). We shipped a 20' from Houston. While my husband had packed a lot of stuff in advance, some of it the movers repacked to make it fit just right in the container. They came one day to pack and wrap all the stuff and the next day to load the container. I really did not think it would all fit if we had tried to pack the container ourselves. It's a real talent they have. They say it's like Tetris and it really is. We had absolutely nothing broken, not even a light bulb!
My suggestion is to let the professionals do the packing of both boxes/furniture and the container itself. They will inventory everything and make it so that no red flags will be raised in customs. Just be sure to have the copy of the inventory with you when they deliver the container in Panama.
Btw - the container is loaded and unloaded from ON THE TRUCK. It is not on street level as I had assumed. The packer literally runs everything up a narrow ramp at about a 45 degree angle. I personally could not have done that myself.
Hope is helps. Let me know if you have any questions.
