Decent used cars are from $6000 and up. I generally recommend folkss thinking about spending 12k to 15k if they can, which will get a good low mileage SUV.
If you send me an email to keithwoolford@gmail.com I'll forward the current list of vehicles I have for sale to give you an idea.
it costs aabout $60 a year to license a car and $175 for minimal insurance.
Rents range from $300 to $1500 I guess, depending on the lifestyle you want or need to maintain.
cheers, Keith

Specifically, I can help with financing your retirement lifestyle, my immigration lawyer will soon be the immigration director again, international real estate etc.
We have made many friends in Boquete and they seem very pleased with their choice of where to live. Our plan is to move to Boquete and rent for a year to be sure we like it. Then buy or build a home if we decide to stay.
Another problem with Boquete is that in order to fly out of Panama, you have to get to Panama City which is 6 - 7 ours away by car. Flights are available out of David (30-40 minutes away from Boquete) but sometimes it is difficult to arrange a timely connecting flight in Panama City so sometime you have to spend the night. If there was a family emergency in the States, I am concerned about getting back quickly. However, we have visited every sizeable community in Panama and none compare to Boquete.
The Panamanian people have been great with us. They do have a 'Gringo' price as opposed to a local price - so you have to be aware and haggle. We do plan on traveling, so perhaps we will do that during the rainy season.
The Government is corrupt - much more so than here - oftentimes the corruption is overt! Our experience has been very pleasant with the Panamanian government officials - just everything takes time - lots of it! Nothing happens quickly in Panama!
The weather during the dry season is unbelievable. From living in Florida all of my life I can't tell you how much I appreciate not having to have air conditioning! The weather stays 70 - 80 degrees year round with a bit more chilliness in the evenings. We did experience an earthquake and flooding last November. The town seems to have recovered from the flooding quickly.
I guess it depends on just what your looking for. Perhaps the Florida life will be a best fit for you if you're looking for a slower pace with all of the conveniences you have become used to - we've been here so long now, we're looking for a change.
You should check out both places and stay for awhile so you can get a feel for the place. If I can be of any more help, feel free to drop me an email.
Good luck and take care, Kay
