Hello Gisela,
Like Susan, I would be very interested to know more about your source of information regarding DDT, etc., in Boquete. I've done a preliminary search online for info, and turned up nothing. From what I can tell DDT is banned in Panama (and pretty much the whole world) for horticultural use. It is permitted for the control of disease carrying mosquitos. I read that some folk in Central America do continue to (illegally) use DDT for horticultural purposes, but I did not get the impression it was widespread. I know there are some other very nasty chemicals used in CR and Panama (Punta Verde, being the main place) for horticultural purposes.
Obviously you have access to info that I don't. I'd really like to hear more from you about this matter and where I can find out more about it (online, if possible).
Regards,
Jonathan
Hello Gisela,
Thanks for taking the time to comment. It seems your message was cut short... as the last sentence is incomplete, and perhaps more is missing beyond that.
I've travelled extensively, and as far as I can tell most of the "modern world" is, in my opinion, relatively unconscious and destructive in its approach to agriculture (for a start). For this reason I'd be looking at land that has not been intensively farmed at any point in recent decades, either in the mountain areas up above Boquete, or elsewhere in the region... toward Volcan, for instance, or elsewhere... but relatively close by. Any land being seriously considered would have to be tested for DDT and other toxic horticultural chemicals which are slow to degrade.
I am not yet familiar with all the names nor the exact lay of the land... but I assume at this stage there is still land around (let's say within a 20 to 40 minute drive of Boquete) that is not polluted with DDT (an insecticide) and the like.
If you care to repeat what you attempted to post to me in your comment, please do. What came after, "You better off going to..." ?
Regards,
Jonathan
I sure hope you are correct. The main problem is the mentality that about 50% of the folks in the US have. They will not work and only want to be supported by the tax payers. Every day you see advertisements for help wanted with no response from job seekers and they will not work until their payments from the Govt stops and they get hungry. The other problem is that those who do apply can not pass the drug test that most employers now give. We have to have no leadership and a lot of cutting back.
How long have you been in Boquete?
