When the 4-H'ers were asked what they wanted to do, as far as equestrian disciplines went, it was unanimous. They all wanted to jump!They are being started out in what is called, "Hunters" and will eventually work their way up to Show Jumping. Hunters is not off the clock, and judged on the rider's and horse's form over fences and much more strict and requires a very strong basis and correct training foundation. Show Jumpers are good to go as long as they leave the rails up and for all the sport cares, can ride like cowboys over the jumps, as long as they ride the course in sequence (no off course) and clean (no rails down) or refusals.They will encounter classes such as, Green Working Hunters, Hunters Over Fences, Regular Working Hunters, Hunter Hack and Road Hack in their 4-H futures.Both Jess and our official 4-H Judge have done all these and their goal is to turn out proficient little riders, confident and aggressive in their riding style.All the horses and ponies here jump. That's why we have high fences.
