    Gordon you are absolutely right. If you hike down into the canyon during the rainy season you run the risk of flash floods.  I usually take my kids to the damed area right next to it - the water is cold but nice for a quick dip or a picknick.

    I believe its called Cuesta de Piedra - up the road to Volcan. Or you can take the new road from potrerillo to volcan.
