Today our friend came to Pony Club- mostly to visit, but she did a nice little talk about how to detect illness in horses, signs, symptoms of pain and colic- how to treat and prevent colic and for Prac App, the Pony Clubbers got to work on the vitals. They learned how many heartbeats per minute at resting, normal temp, and even got some hands on.My question to her was do we now leave a colicky horse to roll, as the theory is nature knows more than us. She said yes and to give the horse 30 minutes to sort itself out. If after 30 minutes the pain persists, call a vet. We have left our horses this way. They know more than us.
