For Janet, maybe it is not proven that OBL has a responsability in 9/11, but it is proven that he was responsable for other killings, like the attacks of US embassies in Tanzania and Kenya that killed hundred of innocent people; as well as many others terrorist acts.
Bill said "....where the world might be today if we had not stood against the tyrannies of the past...". You're right, and that the most scary of all.
millions of people did give their lives for a better future and some norms and regulation in International Politics and relations between States. It gave birth to the CHARTER OF THE UNITED NATION, that everyone should read today. Especially Chapters 1 and 6.
The international stage, sadly, is now how it was back in 1936. Back to chaos. The USA tuned its back on the UN in 2001, after having tried to cheat it. It opened the pandora box. France and England, using the once defensive alliance called NATO as its arm force, a conducting a war in Lybia for whatever reasons. War on Terrors has suppressed a load of legal human rights in countries around the world (not only in the US).
And that scares me, it scares me for my children's future.
And what scares me even more is that part of the people in every countries just agree with this situation.
This is not about OBL but about how our societies evolve, how the peace values we built after WW2 became war's values.
So Bill; yes, but i feel that the millions who gave their lives against tyrannies have just been betrayed.
This killing operation breached at least 5 principles of the UN Charters. How good the "cause" might seem, the State of Rights is what makes a democratic society possible. Sometimes laws and rules are unfair, but one cannot live without.
Of course, democracy never existed on the international level, but at least we had some basic legal norms that could be used to condemn ruthless regime. How will the so called "international community" do that if they don't respect its own norms?
Stangely, today, our governments, the media and part of the population are trying to convince the rest that a "far west" type of international relations between states and nations is good for the future...when it only leads to chaos and more forgotten innocent victims

Stephane - Osama Bin Laden was and is connected to the 9/11 attacks all Janet has to do is look for the info, but she is too busy with conspiracy theories: On October 29, 2004, at 21:00 UTC, the Arab television network, Al Jazeera, broadcast excerpts from a videotape of Osama bin Laden addressing the people of the United States, in which he accepts responsibility for the September 11, 2001 attacks, condemns the Bush government's response to those attacks and presents those attacks as part of a campaign of revenge and deterrence motivated by his witnessing of the destruction in the Lebanese Civil War in 1982.
As to going in and getting Bin Laden, while yes it might have violated Pakistani sovereign territory, it was the right thing to do. If Bin Laden has been living there as long as believed (5-6 years), which the leaders of the government probably didn't know about it without a doubt some in control of the government did know he was there and to risk a leak and him escaping justice again would have been unforgivable. The U.S. did not start this war, but I am glad the U.S. is willing to do what it takes to hunt down men such as Bin Laden.
Just to disagree with another point you are making -- it isn't ok for Ghadafi (or any other leader such a Saddam Hussein) to kill and punish thousands upon thousands of innocent people in their own country -- it is right that nations such as the U.S., England and other NATO allies step up and intervene. How many hundreds of thousands need to be slaughtered before the world should step in? You say we're back to 1936, but believe your wrong. Back in the 30's the world appeased Hitler to avoid war and protecting people/countries which needed it. I guess we should have let Saddam Hussein keep Kuwait and killing those in his country who opposed him -- then we would be back in the 30's and perhaps we should let Ghadafi do the same -- then we would be back to the international environment of the 30's.
God Bless our American Fighting Men who continue to provide our right to disagree.
I am affraid you just missed the point i wanted to make.
It is not important if OBL is responsable or not for 9/11. A terrorist crime (like the evident one on the Embassies in Afrika) would have been enough to put him on trial.
It is how we, proudly declared democracies of the world, do respond to this that matters.
And please, i don't want to be dragged down to an analysis of the US foreign policy of the last 60 years (which by the way, was kind of my job until i came here).. It is really not the point.
Let's give me an example "my daughter is kidnapped, raped and killed by a US citizen who is hiding in the States, and despite their efforts the US authorities cannot get their hands on him. Now, as i am (supposition, of course) a billionair, i hire a death squad to bring him down. The squad is not carefull and get him in his home, but killed in the same occasion some of his relatives".
- 1. How would the US Justice department treat my case ?
- 2. What would be your personnal position (opinion) on my act, knowing that one of my "collateral victims" is a child" ?
Please answer these questions, i would really appreciate
This is my last one, and then I am out of this conversation forever. al Queda declared a war on America. bin Laden died in the war.
Please continue to do your incessant research to understand Lesser Jihad. As I said before, your opinions and your right to express them will be defended.
I totally agree with Bill and Juan Carlos. Brave men and women of our military standing tall every hour of every day is what upholds our freedoms to agree or disagree as Americans. No matter which side of the debate you are on, you are able to express your opinion because men and women have died to give you the right to do so. The man is dead and rightly so in my opinion. So how about doing something positive for the world today. There are organizations making positive impact educating young girls and helping women all over the planet. Studies have proven that when girls are educated, violence and abuse to women goes down. Why not in remembrance of your moms or grandmothers make a donation to an organization that will help bring the standard of living for so many up. Here are two wonderful organizations who put the money you donate actually in the hands of the woman you choose to help. www.kiva.org and www.womenforwomen.org. Heifer Internaitonal is another organization that provides animals to improve the life of women all over the world. One single goat or pig can make all the difference in someone's life.
So which part is he wrong about -- you are not a military retiree receiving a retirement check from the government; not using the military health care system; what? Based on other posts I've read on here seems like he is right on target and although it won't matter to you I happen to agree with Bill (and I'm sure others on here do as well even if they don't post it).
I never had thought I would say this, because you have so many other sentiments that I disagree with, but you are blessed with a perfect understanding of this problem. Ms. Parker and Ms. Sutton would never have the opportunity to openly express their views if the bin Laden's of the world were not stopped.
As a veteran, I am disappointed that Marv would make his comments. He is the beneficiary of military retirement pay and a beneficiary of the military retirement medical care system. i would have hoped that he wouldn't bite the hand that feeds him, but it is his right to do so -- and that right has been defended for well over two hundred years.
For the dogs who lie down with their belly up for the wolf, al qaeda will come again. And, all of your free speech will be defended again. You don't know how lucky you really are.
Everyone here continues to ignore the only reason that I posted in this discussion.
What part of 'Bin Laden was NOT responsible for 911' don't you understand?
I have spent a lot of time finding and presenting evidence to prove that BIN LADEN WAS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR 911 and no one has acknowledged, yet alone come up with any proof to the contrary. Just slights that I don't do anything. Let's see what you can come up with to prove there is any connection other than rehashed misinformation.
....."All of the oppositional arguments depend on the other side never doing anything with their position, just arguing rhetorically about it...."
DITTO!
IF you bothered to watch any of the videos or read the articles that I provided, you just may see my point. Seems the FBI didn't even want the man for 911, yet everyone here still keeps harping on it. What about the video and site from fire fighters that have been calling for a proper investigation and for justice. Why won't the government just answer questions regarding all this? What's all the secrecy about? The same secrecy goes for the supposed killing of Bin Laden and the fragments of information that they do give out keeps changing.

Juan Carlos,
Good for you! You and I are on the same page on this one. I am a Nam Vet, and proud of my service to the USA.

Another video of explosions after the planes crashed and before the buildings crumbled. I like the last woman's comment.
