Most of us enjoy eating out but this is a very rough time for anyone in the restaurant business. Here are two suggestions to help them once they re-open. 1) Offer to pre-pay for future meals. Ask if you can buy $25, $50 or $100 worth of future meals (get it in writing) so you can give them "seed" money to start business again. In the States, we would buy gift cards or gift certificates to do the same thing but I don't believe these exist in Boquete, so you may need to speak to an owner/manager to make this arrangement. 2) Those who qualify for jubilado discounts should offer to not get the discount in local restaurants through the end of the year. As a pensionado on a fixed income, these are two sacrifices I would be willing to make so some of my favorite eateries can get back on their feet more easily.
I hope everyone who cares about Boquete will join me in helping out. I will say up front that I am not connected in any way to any restaurant but I am eagerly awaiting the time I can visit these places again. It's so sad to see so many wonderful places shuttered during this crisis. I wish them all the best. - Bob Hulsey
