I bought a drone to have some fun with my grandson while he was here, but we never got around to using it.  It was still new in the box, so I advertised it on .ning.

The next day, I received an email from Grace Smith indicating an interest.  I replied with my phone number, local address and my asssurance that nothing had ever been taken from the box.

Today I received another message from Grace Smith.  Here it is:

Thanks for getting back to me. I hope the DRONE WITH CAMERA -- UNUSED is in good condition? and there wont be any cause of disappointment if i purchase the DRONE WITH CAMERA -- UNUSED from you? I want to buy it for my pastor who is in West African for his birthday party coming soon as a gift and I am willing to pay the asking price. I'm a Marine biologist and am currently on sea right now, it is strictly no calls here due to the lack of reception on the sea area. But I'm able to access my mail anytime as i will make use of wireless laptop, therefore, My Mode of payment is through PayPal as i don't have access to my bank account online, but i have it attached to my PayPal account. Since I'm requesting this transaction to be done via PayPal, I will be responsible for all the Paypal fees/charges on this transaction, i will like you to get back to me with more pictures if available, if you don't have an account with paypal, it's pretty easy, safe and secure to open one. Just log on to I hope we can make this transaction as fast as possible. Less I forgot, I look forward to hearing from you with your paypal information as requested below.

So it turns out that ol' Grace is a marine biologist who can't use English very well, floating around on the ocean somewhere with a magic wireless computer that has email connectivity but no VOIP.  "She" has a pastor in Africa for whom she would like to buy a drone as a birthday gift.  And she wants my PayPal data.  What could possibly go wrong with that?
Oh, yes, the originating IP address is in Mountain View, California, a well-known center of marine biology interest.  Here is what I found related to the IP address:

Maybe she could just give me her pastor's latitude and longitude and I could fly the drone to him after the money hits my PayPal account?
I have not yet replied to "Grace," so if you have any suggestions for cool replies, please post them as soon as possible.  I wonder if "Grace" is a member of .ning?

  • Actually a Grace Smith joined Ning, yesterday, with a Panama IP address, strangely, but I did suspend her for now, and see if she replies.

Do not take payment with Paypal, it can be reversed in 30 days.  I think flying the drone over to Africa may be a better solution :) to see if the Pastor really exists.
