CC and I have been making, bottling, and selling Ginger Ale now for the last year. Everyone loves the fact that all of the indredients are here locally and the finished product tastes great. We have 3 wonderful children and we are very concerned and aware of what they put in their body. By making homemeade Ginger Ale we are giving our children a healthy carbonated drink. Ginger Ale can easily fix the upset stomach, reduce flatulance, quiet the noisy tummy caused by cramps, help with sinus congestion, helps the body absorb essential nutrients, aids in releiving joint pain (as it is a natural anti-inflammatory), and believe it or not but Ginger Ale can even help fix the Bedroom Blues!!
When we started growing our own ginger and started to research the health benefits of this amazing root we were blown away. I hope this information spreads like wildfire and if you feel compelled please send this info out to everyone you know.. I would like to share our recipe for making Ginger Ale. The only variable is the Ginger. Experiment with the amount that you use. Some might like it a bit spicier than others. Here we go:
Homemade Ginger Ale
2 Tblsp Freshly grated ginger
1/4 tsp yeast
1 cup of Sugar
1 whole lemon (Using only the squeezed juice. We use the yellow sour lemons from Price Mart) Just a side note about lemons, Cecelia buys a bunch at Price Mart then when she gets to the house squeezes all of them into ice cube trays. After they are frozen she removes them and puts the lemon cubes in a zip lock bag in the freezer. But I digress..
In a 2 liter clean plastic container (We use my old 2 liter Coke Containers) add all of your ingredients. Next add warm water and fill it up and stop when you are about 3 inches from the top of the bottle. Put a lid on it and shake really good. Make sure you mix up the ingredients real good. Once you have done this take your newly bottled Ginger Ale and place it in a dark quiet place. Let sit for 48 hours. If you live in a warmer climate you may want to check it after 24 hours. Once the plastic bottle has no give to it when you squeeze the sides it is done!!!! Finally using a strainer you will strain the liquid into a bowl. Clean out your 2 liter bottle or have another one handy then pour the liquid back into a clean bottle and refrigerate. Because it's homemade without preservatives the Ginger Ale needs to be consumed within a week of making it.
We enjoy making and drinking this great drink. I think you will as well.
Have Fun
