Within days of the start of the celebrations of King Momo, the Carnival of Las Tablas has an uncertain future, and is due to the crisis of the water in the Azuero region, yet there is a definite position on the celebration or not of the same.
Jesús Arrocha, director of marketing for the Institute of aqueducts and sewage systems (Idaan), explained that although the water crisis is a situation that occurs every year in Azuero, this year has the distinction of being intensified by the El Niño phenomenon which will affect the subject of the water catchment.
"The water will be scarce, will be an extremely dry season," he said while he indicated that they have reinforced the actions to try to encourage a rational consumption of the vital liquid. "All depend on how changing the subject," said Arrocha in RPC Radio, also said that authorities will take the decision on the implementation of the Carnival in Las Tablas according to the results of the investigations.
He pointed out that mid- or in the last days of January the results of studies may be known and said that they are taking the time to give a decision, although it does not consider that the scenario will lead to "a decision so far," referring to the cancellation of the Tableño Carnival.

Some history here.
When the Carnavals of Las Tablas was not so popular. When it was a traditional party for people from Las Tablas and the Los Santos provinces very exclusive, not so crowded and chaotic there were not the famous "culecos".
There were the TUNAS (not the fish). it is a crowd of people with musical instruments and singers roaming on the main streets around the central park singing songs criticizing everything of the other TUNA (Calle Arriba vs Calle Abajo). When they get together and met face to face they threw each other cheap perfumes like Patchouli, Florida Water of Murray and Langhman, etc.
Now it is a source of income for the city and the district with the huge amount of people going there. Las Tablas population increase dramatically only two times a year: in carnivals and Santa Librada Days. Other days it is a extremely quiet, small rural and agricultural town.
This year it rained everywhere in Panama but not in the Azuero Provinces. So the freatic levels and the rivers, streams, etc are at their very low level. The people from those provinces has some cultural customs that affected their environment. Deforestation. If the water problems still exist and the carnival will not be held on Las Tablas that will be a terrible blow to the economy of that district. Let see what will happen.
