Our budget is limited as the Canadian dollar has been fluctuating quite dramatically so we understand that we will be looking for something very basic. Our budget is about 250 - 350 maximum per month, hopefully with some amenities included. Thanks for reading and not laughing too hard!Bruce and Mar

Olga thank you again for your help and patience with the expats that never say please or thank you
and never ask what they can do in return.

No need to thank Don.
I just want to inform people. It is not that hard to ask around, the locals are friendly and try to communicate with you and help you if they see you are making an effort to communicate or get around.
Thank you kindly to many others who have written kind and helpful replies!

Most of them are undercapitalized, both financially and culturally. They have no clue as to what they're getting themselves into. I'm sorry, but I must reinforce the notion that people who come to Latin America "because it's cheap" have missed the boat entirely. Lee used to talk about "quality of life" issues. He understood...
Bruce , it's just so very fortunate for you that you obviously are "overcapitalized" in many ways, including your opinions. Perhaps you have forgotten, in your eagerness to respond, that I, too, am here for quality of life and for the long haul and the simple life. Don't need a fancy casa and if you wish for me to post in Español, just to please you, I could do that. By the.way your response does come off a bit arrogant, one more reason to leave the Boquete area and live amongst Panamanians who are simple and true!also to end, for future reference, you are speaking to the original poster, not the general public. No need to respond further and thank you for your profound insights.

Well, after living in Latin America for more than 35 years, I do have some insights that folks from North America couldn't possibly have. My apologies if you think that's arrogant. I'm just stating the facts. By the way, I also prefer to live among locals, not in a gringo ghetto. I wish you the best of luck going forward and hope that you do indeed make an effort to assimilate within the Panamanian culture. There aren't many gringos who try to do that.
I just posted some links to nice homes around Los Algarrobos, Dos Pinos, Dolega that are very affordable, another one in David. These are newer homes $300 and under.
Panamanians use www.olx.com and www.encuentra24.com for their classifieds, you need some Spanish to go through these ads and to respond, but there you will find real market value for properties aimed for nationals at nationals pricing

True Olga. I hardly meet Americans or Canadians that can speak Spanish fluently in the Boquete area.

If you get out of the district of Boquete and David prices fall off dramatically.
We found a 3&2 on one acre, for our friends, fruit trees fenced in, down the street from us for $155 pm.A very nice house.
We are 7 km north of Boqueron in Barrio Lindo. They should be moving to their new house soon.this may help you get your bearings. http://panamalivinginvestment.com/cost-of-living-in-chiriqui-best-p...
