The area is small enough that just a couple guys moving around the streets looking for suspicious-looking situations would be enough, I think.
They could be "armed" with binoculars, cameras with tele lenses to get evidence, mace, sticks, radios to bring in the real police. If you were worried they'd sit around all day, you could record their tracks with GPS so you could see what routes they took yesterday, etc.
They wouldn't even have to be "trained" security guards, since maybe they wouldn't carry weapons. Just trustable young guys looking to make some money.
There could even be a reward money pool established to be paid to them if they facilitated bringing someone in who was eventually convicted.
I beg to differ, Paul. The area may be small in population, but it is not small in terms of covering it with security personnel. The District of Boquete is vast and spread out, with innumerable communities throughout the mountains and the areas south of town.
It's not that big. And a huge part of that you wouldn't have to patrol because it's unused/empty.
The District of Boquete is 189 square miles. If square, that would be 13.7 miles on a side. A guard watching over a road that went from from top to bottom could do it very carefully in an hour, leaving 7 1/2 hrs for all the side roads. Add 2 more guards for very thorough coverage. You could probably get 3 guards for $300/day easy.
This would cost each member of Boquete's population of 25,000 a grand total of 36 cents a month.
I know there are a variety of possible complications, but "the area's too big" and "it would be too expensive" are not among them.
No, not on foot obiously. In their car, moto or even bike.
13.7 miles in a hour? On foot?
Mr, Jones, good to hear that you are OK. A burglary, rather than a Home Invasion, Property can be replaced, lives can be traumatized or injuries not so much so during a robbery or home invasion.. When and if possible any details on both or either to (at the proper time) possibly inform others in any steps to becoming a non victim would be greatly appreciated. Time of day, locked gates, windows, alarm, cameras etc. What if anything would you Change to alleviate the situation. Usually the perpetrators have knowledge of content, workmen, service people, etc or maybe just because You were the new guy. Having been in the trade, I find reprehensible those who prey on others, especially the young or the elderly. (which I now am) Thanks
With Panamanian labor being so cost effective, why couldn't security guards be hired to help the police?
Who would pay them?
