Is this the week/month of the beetles? This morning there were 16 of them on the terrazzo. All about 2 inches long, hard shelled, and all on their backs waving their legs in the air. Has anyone else seen these? They only appeared in numbers about 3 days ago.

That's nature. Food for the birds, it is nesting time. The Chinese might like to stir fry them or the French with garlic and butter sauce in the oven.
Well, they are big enough for a meal, but all the birds seemed to give them a wide berth! Today they have disappeared. I guess yesterday was Kamikaze day.
They hatch, fly into walls and windows all night and wind up just like you described, on their backs in the morning .
Just sweep them off. They don't bite or sting.
In a couple of weeks they will be all gone.
