Several Copa flights with Costa Rica route have been temporarily suspended and some diverted due to eruptions of the Turrialba volcano which has erupted 5 times today leaving ash clouds covering San Jose and causing a temporary closing of the international airport
San Jose has been greatly affected by this cloud and drivers are forced to drive with their lights on, also affected are the provinces of Heredia and Alajuela, towards the center of the country.
This temporary suspension has affected 20 flights that were scheduled for take off and 14 others who had planned landings which were sent to airports in other countries
Health officials are recommending the people use precaution and use masks or cover nose, mouth and eyes and to prevent prolonged exposure to the ashes, especially children, elders and people with respiratory.deficiencies
These eruptions are part of the normal activity of this volcano, which is located at 3,340 meters of altitude and has been in an active state since October 2014, presenting multiple ash eruptions, gas and hot materials, Turrialba volcano is part of a national park located approx. 70 KM from San Jose. It is second highest in Costa Rica, after the Irazu volcano

Rumor is they are canceling flights not only to Panama but anywhere out of San Jose. Thersure seems to be a lot of eruptions on the "ring of fire" lately, anyone have any idea why?
At the risk of having my hand slapped for mentioning another site, but Keith Woolford has a discussion on CL “Blowout at Volcan Turrialba” with a video. What’s interesting about the video is the shape that descends from the top right hand corner?
No risk at all, you are not bashing, insulting or offending anyone, just mentioning a post.
18 years ago I climbed this volcano with my Daughter. We descended into the area of previous eruption and there was fumes coming from some areas of the ground. It was the coldest place I had ever been and was a really strange place.
Wow nice, it is something I am yet to experience. I did go to Irazu when I was in my teens.
The smoke apparently is really bad now
