David and Bugaba Prohibit the Building of Hydroelectric Dams
The two municipalities decided to take action before the drought and crisis by the lack of water in all of Chiriqui, by adopting resolutions to prohibit concessions.
There are now two municipalities that have decided to take action before the drought and the ongoing crisis due to the lack of water in all Chiriqui, by adopting resolutions to prohibit the concessions of rivers and creeks for the construction of hydroelectric dams within their districts
Bugaba and David are the municipalities that have opted to adopt resolutions with the intention of halting the indiscriminate hoarding of the water of the main rivers that supply water treatment plants that give water to their respective districts.
The Municipality of David issued a resolution that expresses its opposition to the construction of dams or reservoirs in the rivers within the district of David.
The resolution has the support of Act 6 of the 8 October 1973, in its article 21, which establishes that it is the faculty of the Municipal Council to dictate measures in order to protect and conserve the environment.
"There is a dissatisfaction in the community by the construction of numerous dams on the rivers of our province, which directly affect the environment and to the community that is ordinarily delivers over water," said the representative of David, Miguel Medina, a proponent of the resolution.
For the foregoing reasons, the Council adopted to oppose the construction of new dams or reservoirs within the rivers of the district of David, and to express solidarity with the other districts of this province in their struggle to protect the natural resources and the environment.

That's a good question. When I lived in Costa Rica the President at that time lived about 3-4 blocks from my house. It was on the corner, one story, not all that big, nice rod iron fence and armed security outside, but that was it. One security guard outside the fence and one that we could see inside the fence. No mansion or palace.
Big Protest today against more Hydroelectric projects by the residents of Bugaba who will be marching down the PanAmerican Highway from Concepcion to David.
Bugabenos are prepared today to protest against the construction of more 'hydroelectric' plants with a caravan that will travel from La Concepcion to the Governors Palace in David, where there will be a mass rally. Bugaba's district authorities, living forces and environmental groups will protest this Friday against the construction of hydroelectric dams in the province of Chiriqui.
On the subject, Leopoldo Enrique Caballero, president of the Coordinating Committee of Bugaba, said that the protest is part of the measures of force that they decided to adopt on Wednesday when the time ran out that they had given to the president of the Republic, Juan Carlos Varela, to sit down and talk about the rejection of hydroelectric plants.
The Bugaba's mayor, Carlos Arauz, said that the neighbouring municipal representatives in their district have closed ranks in order to avoid the construction of new hydroelectric dams.
This initiative is supported by the mayor of the district of David, Francisco Vigil, who together with their Municipal Council passed a resolution, which is set the same intention.
Maybe Lee can publish the letter that was sent by a writer in regard to a hydro project to the Minister of Tourism and others

Already done, the Boquete Cosejo has passed the resolutation declaring el districto de Boquete sea declarado lugar turistico international y que por lo tanto no se permita la construction de ningun tipo de proyecto hidroelectrico.
NO HYDROS NOW OR IN THE FUTURE
And as the mayor said at the foro here in Caldera, "this mayor is not for sale"
So, the water wars have begun- all of these resolutions in chiriqui are in direct conflict with the already 90 % of water concessions given for hydro
Will there be a similar resolution made by the Municipal Council for the District of Boquete?
Joswar Alvarado, Represenante of El Alto introduced the same proposal in Boquete. I have no idea if it has passed.
