I met Ignacio on Thursday in town and he is a very nice Christian man who is here from CR looking for work. He was robbed at paso canoas and has few belongings, only what we could give him. He is a good man down on his luck relying on his faith. He was an interpreter/teacher in CR. He will take any employment and has been canvassing boquete since he arrived. If you are able to help in some way, please call him at this number, 6847 0834. We gave him a phone with limited minutes. I know there are a lot of good people here with more to give than we have. I pray that the right people find him and can help him with a job. He really wants to work. He seems very honest and humble.Bruce and mar

Marlene your intentions are great but you must be careful. If he is a Costa Rican national, then he needs to get some sort of work permit or status in Panama, otherwise anyone who employs him is subject to fines and he is subject to deportation.
Panama has been enforcing these laws lately more than ever as there is a large influx of illegal immigrants working without their permits and limiting the jobs for nationals.
The economy in Costa Rica is not in worse shape than Panama's and everyone may have their reasons to why the leave their countries, but again, beware.
Why are his professed beliefs pertinent to his alleged employment needs, why would he merit more attention than a Hindu, Zoroaster, Budhist, Muslim, or Atheist? ,how is it that his profession of "faith" solidify the voracity of his story? (sorry, punctuation is not my forte).
You seem to imply that he is "Christian", like this is a good thing?
Meanwhile, 0.2% of the US prison population are atheists according to research from the US Federal Bureau of Prisons. Whilst 75% of inmates responded they are either catholic or protestant.
As I said before , there are 2 sides to this story. Neither of which I will say here on the forum.
I am just reporting a request for some employment and giving a bit of background. Not looking for anything else. You all have the information so do with it as you wish. Thank you for your time.
Yes, there aren't that many Ignacio's from Costa Rico running around with the same story. A story, I might add, that is quite familiar to anyone who has lived here any length of time. It's the same old worn out tale; somehow they get stranded in Boquete and need work. They haven't eaten for a couple of days, etc. Classic panhandler procedure. This one happens to act more passively than others. Looks like his technique is working ...
Perhaps, but regardless, we are all here to help each other and we are just putting information out there to see if anyone is able to help him with employment.
Thanks for your insight.
Did you ask him why he moved from CR to Panama (the state of the economy is probably about the same) and if he is allowed to work in Panama? Does he not have relatives in CR that could help him out?
One should always be a bit suspicious about people with their "down on my luck" stories - even if they appear (or pretend) to be good Christians.

He has a story and it is not for me to report it here. He can tell it to you if you are interested and he chooses. He is just a nice man looking for work.
He needs a hand up and not a hand out. If you HAV a job to offer him, I know he would be grateful.

He accosted first my wife then me outside Mike's Global Grill. In my opinion he is a panhandler.
He came up to me when I was alone with no one around and was quite meek asking only if I knew where he could find some work. Didn't ask for anything else. Are you sure this is the same person?
