Can anyone recommend an honest and dependable lawyer in Boquete or David? In the first instance, my wife and I need one to apply for residence visas.
Many people speak highly of Rainelda Mata-Kelly, but her only office is in Panama City. We have not yet lived in Panama for any significant period of time, but this would seem to be a disadvantage. We have no plans to go to Panama City regularly. Also, she charges $2550 to apply for the visas.

Thanks a lot for your quick reply. I gave her a call but unfortunately she can't help me right now. However I'll keep her adress because of your recommendation and maybe I'll need her in future for other things.
I used Rainelda a few years ago for my Pensionado visa, cedula and drivers license - wonderful service, honest and speaks perfect English. She was certainly not the cheapest but I don't think there is any better attorney in Panama. Sometimes trying to save a few dollars can be very expensive in the long run.
In my opinion you are better off with an attorney in PC because that is where all the paperwork has to take place.
Good Luck,
Len
Dear Lee,

Of five people engaged in purchasing a property here in Boquete, Rainelda Mata-Kelly was the only one (including us) who got everything right. She's honest and good. She's also not afraid to "go to the top" as she did when the office processing jubilado visas lost all our paperwork. Responding to pressure from "the top" the office found the missing paperwork and we shortly had our visas. Much can go wrong in a move to another jurisdiction.Your lawyer selection can be key to mitigating (or adding to) your troubles.
I recommend Rainelda without hesitation.
I am pleased to report that we followed Jeff Simon's advice and used Jorge Sanchez to obtain our pensionado visas. Our experience mirrored that of Jeff's, and we can recommend Jorge Sanchez without reservation. Although based in PC, he was happy to come to David (if we paid for his airfare) as he has family there; that saved us a lot of trouble and expense. His contact details are:

What I was told by my attorney is processing time all depends on which pile your visa application falls in and how soon that pile gets worked on -- she said for whatever reason they are not necessarily processed in the order received. She said as a case in point visa applications she submitted during the months of Apr, May Jun, Jul, Aug, and Sep were all approved and finalized in Jan -- so who knows why the one started in Apr and the one started in Sep were both approved in Jan. I believe you're looking at a minimum of 3 - 4 months, but during the initial process of starting your visa you can get a temporary one good for a year until the final visa is approved.
