If you think that Spanish has long words, consider German: They concatenate several words to make one new, official word:
Dampfschiffahrtsgesellschaft - Steamship Company
Dickstoffstapelturm - High Density Storage Tower

Germans like most Europeans are defaulting to English... not just in business and science... but government, politics and art.
German language is incorporated in the English language anyway... Anglos, Saxons, Jutes, etc. which comprise much of the English colonization were germanic as was their language... guden morn...good morning, etc.
I can't believe this - had the same conversation with friends last week. She's a lovely lady that is from Latin America that doesn't speak English but now uses the word bat as well. LOL
It seems to me it takes > 3X to explain a simple conversation in Spanish vs English (just to make a point - no data to back up what I said)....
Val - English is considered to be the simplest language to learn on the planet. That's why it has become the international language of choice by most (if not all) of the world's population.
I think I want to take it easy on you Walt.. not sure why but then I do know the reason. Oh and my lack of proper 'English? Dang it I don't care.. golly gee!
Thx for enlightening me on my native language. Oh I guess that is one reason who those that may travel OUS, might be "glad" the air traffic controllers, as well as any pilot, have to speak English assuming it is an international flight?
So plz forgive me, I have never lived in Malaysia (oh I know someone from there, does that count?)
Perhaps it may be fun to meet, I will take you up on any challenge, assuming you are in the vicinity of Chiriqui Province? Otherwise, my desire to travel has sort of waned over the years - seen it, done it, check.....
I don't know what you are alluding to Val, but simplicity is precisely the reason why English is the international language of choice - perhaps combined with the fact that it is also more widely spread around the globe than any other language due to the former colonialization of India, Pakistan, Australia, USA, Canada etc. by the Brits.
I know you're just kidding, but why do you have a challenge in mind, and what would it be all about?
Nope - no challenge rescinded since it is stupid. This is nothing other than a diversion.
Take care. Hope you find happiness somehow...

The thing that I like about English is its preciseness. There are so many words for an expression.... and each word has a slightly different meaning...
For example the word ... sad: forlorn, melancholy, depressed, unhappy, despondent, glum, mournful, inconsolable, doleful, sorrowful, crestfallen, gloomy, down, etc.
Each word has a slightly different meaning.... that's English for you.... plenty of choices to fine-tune an expression.
That's true. It's also the most precise and universally understood language in technical and contractual areas. I know that because it was my bread and butter for nearly 20 years...
