Hi, my name is Connie and I plan on moving to your lovely city soon. I will be bringing my 88 year old mother. after extensive searches for a place like paradise, I found Boquete! We will be renting a well cared for dwelling, for one year. We have not found it yet,but if any of you know of such a place please let me know. Preferably one level or at least one bedroom on main level. 2 or 3 bed rooms and 2 baths furnished. . We plan on buying after we settle in. We can come anytime from May on.
I am retired, single, an artist and entrepreneur. I love life and have a lot of energy and am anxious to get to know my new city and meet new friends.

good advice Darlene, will follow it up.
Don't count on any reimbursement from BofA; credit union, maybe, but not BofA. They charge you fees on their end to add to the fees charged by the local bank that has the ATM. Another recommendation is to call the number on the back of your card and let them know you will be here for a month BEFORE you leave. They will flag the card to prevent it from being rejected. Sometimes their fraud detection devices get crazy and refuse to honor foreign transacations.
While you're at it, if your daily ATM withdrawal in the US is less than $500 ($300 is pretty common), ask them to raise it to $500 for use in Panama, as the ATMs will generally allow that much and you want to be sure you can spread your fees over the greatest number of dollars.
thanks, will do. Appreciate the information. Arriving May 1st for the month...still have not found a one month rental I can afford. Thought I had one, but lost out. I plan on attending one of your meetings while there to meet all you nice people...Connie
Welcome to Boquete, please do not hesitate to contact us if you need anything. Safe travels.
Hola Lori,I have a ton of questions, if it is not too much trouble, maybe you or some of my other new friends in Boquete can pass on some advice. If I am there for one month, is there a RENT A WRECK or similar business where I can rent a cheap old car to get me around? Am I able to use a Bank Of America debit card?. Should I just bring cash? What do I need as far as clothes go, for the month of May...warm for evenings?. What is the name of the Air Port in David. I have been told that if I go through San Jose and then to David, the air might be less than going through Panama City and certainly a shorter trip for my mom, avoiding a Panama sleepover...Comments?
I am totally amazed with the generosity of you all, I can say ( "y'a'll" since I lived in Dallas for 25 years ).I learned that years and years ago, the UGLY AMERICAN is a myth. I really learned that lesson leaving Hong Kong on the way to Guam. Thanks to you all so much.
Connie: Goodbye San Diego answered most of your questions except the BOA Debit card one. Banks here all have ATM's and will accept all cards. I'd be cautious about carrying a lot of cash with you. I've never traveled to David from San Jose, I learned something too.
I'm impressed with the background of you and your mom. Living in all those places you will not have a problem adjusting here. Don't get the idea that you cannot exist without speaking the language here. I am far from fluent and manage to get by. I am trying to learn more as I go but my pocket translator really gets a workout. LOL. We purchased a home before we made the final move because of my mom. But if we had to do it over again we'd rent and spend our time getting to know the different areas of Boquete. Different areas have different issues and it would be nice to know what you're getting into before you make a commitment. I do have an American friend who can help you with real estate searching once you get here.
I was born and raised in Michigan but my dad was Canadian. We spent a lot of time in Canada with his family and I grew up with the Canandian "A" as part of my vocabulary. Since we've been here I have slipped a few times and believe it or not have met some new friends because they heard me say "A". I think "y'all" might get some attention and help you meet some other "y'all" people. I have a neighbor from Dallas who'd love to meet you.
There is an organization here called Alto de Cremen. It is a 24/7 hotline to the Police, Fire and Ambulance. It would be something I would recommend you register with just to set your mind at ease.
Keep my cell number and when you get here we'd love to have you and your mom over for coffee and get acquainted. By the way, hope you like coffee. We have some of the best coffee in the world at our fingertips!
got it. Gracias

Hi Jere, We plan on a visit of a month in May. If I find out about your "Newcomers Social" location, you can count on me being there. Your information was well received, thanks. Connie
Hi Johnny, thanks for your reply...we love the "village aspect. " Mom spent 5 years in the Philippians and we lived in Hawaii before it was a state...We plan on a visit for the month of May...we will take Spanish lessons each day. I need to make sure it is what my Mom wants before I sign a 6 month or year lease..haven't found one yet anyway, so now looking for an extended stay rental for a month, maybe someones condo or apartment might be available...I am so impressed with all the wonderful responses for the people of Boquete... Thank you all for your input. Hope to meet you soon.. Connie
