We are looking for the current information on the border crossing. We are needing to get our passports stamped to keep driving here. It is going to be a while before we have our visas. Can you give us what is needed to do this. It sounds like Rio Serano is our choice. We do have our own truck and it sounds like we could leave it on the Panama side and walk / taxi in. We were thinking of spending the night if there are any nice places someone could recommend. I guess that you had better like fried chicken, we do, because it sounds like it is worth the trouble.
Thanks Steve

So, were the Cubanos gone from La morenita?
Hi Steve... We did a crossing at Paso Canoas last week. We made a holiday out of it and went by bus to Golfito overnight. We had all the paperwork suggested, copy of bank information, airline ticket information but none of this was requested. Crossing was easy and uneventful. Other than paying our exit $8. to someone in a van in the parking lot everything was straight forward and smooth. Good luck
The van story. It was there already since November last year.
I crossed Jan. 19th. I had my passport, the airline document, bank document, and cash. And, the immigration guy looked one thing, my passport. And, I didn't spend the night. Luck of the draw at Paso Canoas. For the last couple of months they have been easier. No hotels available when I went, on the panama side. The government took over the hotels and were housing the Cubans. I believe the Cubans are still their but plans have been made to fly them to Mexico. Just don't know if they are gone today. Hopefully my last time for crossing. I wanted to make sure I was going to remain in Panama before getting a pensionado visa and cedula. It's in the works now.
OK we just got back from Rio Sereno crossing. We did not need anything to do with our bank or credit cards. No airline tickets were mentioned and yes we needed two copies of our passports. You do have to go to the farm and ranch store that is behind the fried chicken restaurant and have the guy print out what I guess is your exit fee. You take this to the official at the unmarked building behind the police station and he gives you your stamped exit on your passport. Beware this guy shall we say does not like his job and you.
The Panama immigration official was a nice guy and wanted to help. He did say that it is alright that you can do this all in the same day, but you need to spend a few hours in Costa Rica. We think that this may be part of the attitude from the Costa Official. Now who knows what will be required in the future. Rio Sereno and San Vito are beautiful and it is worth the drive.
I've never had to show two copies of my passport. Where are they asking for two copies of a passport and why? Don't you need your original passport to be stamped?
They keep a copy when you leave Panama and keep the second one when you come back in, I have no idea why they do that and yes they stamp your passport.
Like I said, I have been doing this 2yrs and never have been ask for a copy of my passport. Did you volunter it or did they ask for it?
Debit cards of Panamanian banks have a daily cash ATM limit of $ 500 and 1,000 in purchasing.
An very recent ATM statement will do the job.
You can print out a bank statement or credit card statement that is 24 hrs or less, cash helps, the airline ticket and you are good to go.
Spirit.com you can buy the ticket the day you are traveling, if you cancel the ticket once you cross, within 24 hrs you do not pay a penny
