Hi I have searched ning and google but have been unable to find out about renewing my cedula. It expires next month. Has anyone done this? Please share the process, thanks

I cannot speak to the E cedula because I don't have one, but my pensionado card contains the date issued and then the word "indefinado."
It was my experience that the pensionado carnet (which many refer to as a cedula) itself, i.e., the card, was not re-issued upon obtaining a new passport. But Immigracion did note the new passport number in their computer records so as to link the two and stamped the new passport to demonstrate that the new passport number had been registered.
However, vehicle titles must be changed when one receives a new passport, before renewing one's driver's license. That's a separate but related issue.

Right you are, Bonnie. The folks at imigration in Chiriqui Mall did the same for me with a new passport. I also have the pensionado card or permanent tourist card and not the new E cedula.

So Bonnie, are you saying that with the pensionado card which is "indefidamente" ...when you get a new passport (as I just did) you don't have to get a new pensionado card? That would be great. I don't use it at customs now, I just use my passport because I am worried the authorities will not give me the proper stamp.
Yes. Again, they just register the new passport number in the computer and stamp your passport as having been registered with immigration. No new card--at least not to date.
Well, does the pensionado carnet bear the number of passport?
I never thought it was a problem either, so i never made the change.
But last time my daughter came back from Europe, she had trouble as they asked her why his carnet did not bear the same number as her knew passport. She never had problem traveling within the country, btw.
So we decided that the best for her would be to get a E cedula as well. So we went to the migracion office which gave us the requirements and then said to go to Panama city. So she went with all here documents, there she was told to come back in a couple of weeks to get her cedula.
When she went back, she was told that the tramite had been interrupted because her carnet did not have the right passport number, and that she had first to change it in David, detail that the migracion in David did not tell us right away.
Better to ask twice, as some new civil servants from the panamenista party sometimes know very little about their function.
Same thing about the license. I was not asked to change my car's Pink sheet when i renewed my license, but they did ask my brother who could not get his new license.
my perception is that the administration has become messy since the new president.

Stephane, as Bonnie said ..it's not obligatory to update your Pensionado Carnet. Entirely optional.
I'm working with a laminated copy of a copy of a Pensionado Carnet which was issued in 2006 and fly around the country with it all the time. Instead of replacing it, some day I will just get an E-Cedula.
When a person does obtain a new Passport or E-Cedula number, their vehicle Title needs to be updated before their Drivers License can be renewed.

Was told by my attorney that you never have to renew a cedula--that is why she encouraged me to get it.
A pensionado must be changed when you get a new passport to reflect the new number.

You're right. I confused the car title issue.

Actually, that is not true.
The stamp in the passport only indicates that it has been regsitered.
The next step is indeed to go to the migration and to renew the carnet, as well as you driving license, and the car title.
Best thing would a visit to the migracion office at the chiriqui mall.
Stephanie, when I got a new passport number and went to Migracion, I was told that I did not need to renew my pensionado card.
