Several years ago Panama caught 5 Somali "farmers" in the Darien Jungle. The farmers were carrying new $100 dollar bills. At that time Panama wanted to deport them but did not have the budget to fly them back. Have anyone learned anything new about this?
Deportation is an interesting topic. Several years back I found an article that stated the annual budget for this was under 700k. I believe the holding cells are overfull now. Deporting Colombians is not a problem, but other countries, who pays? I have after years, not found a case where Panama pays to deport US citizens. Deporting people to China or Somalia has to be expensive. Maybe deporting to a nearby country that will accept them works. Who knows?
Lots of "Panama will deport you" comments. But I think paying the $50/mo fine and leaving on your own will make them happy.
Interestingly, the bond payment for deportation for a Friendly Nations visa is $800. Perhaps they should require a $800 bond at the border for tourists.
Oh yeah.....wonderful idea! That would just put the icing on the cake. Panama hardly comprehends the concept of tourism as it is, (outside of Bocas anyway) and that would just kill what little it still has.......And the 3 day border hopping kine tourists dont really count anyway.......And how much does a Spirit Flight to Florida cost anyway? This $800 bond business is just another money grabbing scam by crooked politicians and lawyers.......I will be submitting my residency papers elsewhere as it now stands........I think further south all things considered is the best solution..........

I havent seen one roadblock in Chiriqui since Carnival when there were dozens of em......Felt like the Martinelli police state during Carnaval........checkpoints and bottle necked traffic all sides of David......with Immigration inspectors......But nothing since then, at least not here..........where do you get this information?
