Mort was always there and wow he had great bread! So Of course I bought a loaf almost every week.
Then when he opened Mort's, I was so happy! I also saw a man with a purpose - that was such an inspiration to me because he was doing what he loved. He was a true businessman but when I told him I spent a bunch of $$ on a bread machine, he offered his resources for the purchase of the ingredients that are difficult to find here.
Barb - my deepest condolences. You were here to offer and provided support last year during a tragedy we had in our neighborhood.
Please if there is anything I can do, I am here for you.
My Best,
Valerie
Barbara and her family will be sitting SHIVA for the next 7 days, friends are welcome to stop by
It may be surprising for a visitor to discover a house of shiva well stocked with food, drinks and cakes. The week of shiva is not only about remembering and honoring the dead, but is also intended to sustain and celebrate the on-going cycle of life. Mourners are not expected to play host for their guests; therefore, visitors often bring substantial meals and food for the family and guests alike. In fact, the first meal upon returning from the cemetery is called in Hebrew theseudat ha'vra'ah, which means, "the meal of healing." While most mourners may not feel like cooking or eating, it is the responsibility of the community to ensure their physical well-being and make sure there is enough food on-hand for both mourners and well-wishers.
It would be helpful to know what hours during each day and the location for those of us who want to pay our respects and do not know where their home is. If you do not want to post it on ning please email me at jamesjmarkson@gmail.com.
Thank you.
I did not know Mort that well---just in stopping in to the bakery----but he was always kind and pleasant and an obviously good man. But what I will remember is that he was an incredible artist when it came to baking. I took one of his classes and I make a very good Focaccia bread because of him. Although he could out do me in any baking recipe---i view him as a fellow baker and a teacher that I will never forget!
I am so devastated by this news, he seemed to be on the mend after his knee surgery. He was a true gentleman. We used to compare TV shows and recommend them to each other. To his customers, he was so much more than just 'the baker'. We will all miss him, and hold him and his family in our hearts.
A charming man, always a smile and an easy manner, he will be missed by all his family and friends. Rest in Peace
Mort was loved by many in Boquete and he will be missed. Many prayers and much love go out to Barbara and the family. RIP...

So very sad;he was a dear friend who always greeted me at the bakery with fresh Everything bagels.
A hole in my heart.
Condolences to the family.
We are devastated as well by this news. Still can't wrap our minds around it. Mort was a positive, friendly and enterprising member of the Boquete community and will be missed by many.
Mort, have a safe journey home.
Barbara, we are deeply saddened by the loss that you and your family have encountered.

I didn't know Mort well, but I am so very fortunate to have had the chance to know him a little. This is a huge loss to everyone in our community. Rest in peace Mort.
