Sorry for the large fonts. I copied and pasted it from my morning report. I'm guessing it was about 200 or more miles south and west of us in the Pacific. It's marked on the map. No other quakes listed for Panama today.
Sorry, Hil, but they did not occur simultaneously - they were several minutes apart. The one 200 km out past the Galapagos Islands in the Pacific Ocean was a few minutes earlier, and would and could not be felt in Boquete.
The exact time of the one in Palo Alto matches the time on my alarm clock when the tremor woke me up.
You've got to account for the different time zones :)

I did - the quakes are reported using UTC (universal time, formerly known as Greenwich mean time). Panama is UTC -5 hours, which is the same as U.S.Eastern time (EST) without daylight savings adjustments.

Hi Hilary,
No matter how bold and large the font that is not the event. It is as I posted: Local Magnitude (Ml) 3.6 and 10 kilometers NNE of Boquete.
The USGS can not detect little events in Panama or most of the world.
Both quakes happened at the same time.

We had two more quakes, one at 2:04 a.m. May 4 and another around 6 a.m. The 2 am one was 4.4 near Puerto Armuelles.
