Alex, to my mind, your post was a slap at the person more than a question. The story of what happened that led up to the event you describe has been related to me by someone who has first hand knowledge of the issue, but I'm not going to post it here because it would be third party information. I would however, encourage the .ningers who were directly involved to share the facts as they know them, perhaps in a new thread.
Oh, please. Alex was simply reporting a disturbing sighting and sought additional details. I didn't read any post jumping to conclusions of guilt. I think readers of .ning are mature enough to refrain from premature assumptions. You are treating the readers here like children.
You really can't call on US high school civics lessons here. We're in Panama and the law of the land prevails over anything that we may have been taught. And apparently the police felt there was just cause for an arrest(s) in this case. This means that there was sufficient evidence that a crime occurred. No amount of conjecture or gossip will decide the case, the judge will decide, but the nature of news is that people will discuss, make assumptions, take sides, etc.
And what happens if the citizen, who got arrested and taken away in handcuffs in a police paddy-wagon, gets released (on bond or elsehow), And what if he (I presume he as I didn't see the original post) happens to be a pedophile, rapist, etc... and he happens to strike again.. I have a 14 year old daughter and I certainly would want to know who got taken away in a paddy-wagon (innocent or guilty) to protect my child. If he is my neighbor, I want to know. There have been many cases in the U.S. where a rapist or pedophile got released and committed the same crime over and over again. I believe it is better to err on the side of caution than U.S. laws that have no relevance here. Here in Panama, I believe the law is based on historic French law, which states that you are guilty until proven innocent.

So it is completely fair to someone who is about to close a deal with this individual not to be forewarned that all may not be as it appears to be? Reporting an arrest doesn't state he was convicted. It doesn't assume he's done something wrong, but given that police don't just arbitrarily lock take you away in handcuffs for no reason it does lead one to believe some transgression happened.
You want to discuss Civics Class How about the 1st Amendment -- Right to free speech!!
No you just intend to determine what is and isn't worth posting while violating the posted rules of the forum. There was nothing malicious in reporting an event. The community deserves to know about this just like any other news worthy event without the "WE WON'T CENSORE". Imagine if you were about to do business or complete a transaction with said individual you would want to know he'd been arrested so that you could seek additional information before concluding that business.
When those from Amigos were being trashed there was no removal of items; no stopping of conjecture of what had taken place -- it was free to pile on. Given that said individual arrested advertises on this site I am guessing that is the reason the information was removed.
I suspect the REASON may be that he just wanted to know....like people wanting to know about Amigos, or a found dog, a fire, or whether the food was good or bad at this place or that or any other of the many events that are posted about. Not gossip, just information. The same reason people might read their local paper, to inform themselves of the goings-on in their community. Arrests are a part of that too. The original post was not malicious in my opinion, it was an appropriate inquiry about something he had observed. Sounds like maybe you're too close to the situation to be objective, though I could be wrong and apologize if that's not the case.

I didn't see the first (now-deleted) posting, so am not sure who it is that was originally referenced.
I encourage and request additional knowledgeable comments on this thread.
